November - NRASP Membership Luncheon - Safety Management Systems: How To Get Started - Becky Herrold, McNeilus Steel

Description: This session will review basic methods for setting up a Safety Management System (SMS) which includes evaluation of your current system and the identification of desired system elements such as safety report tracking, system audits, observations, employee engagement, management commitment, training and safety recognition programs.  By implementing effective management systems companies gain a better understanding of the risks and hazards employees are exposed to, can reduce costs associated with injuries and property damage, along with ensuring there is effective and efficient follow-through on corrective and preventive action efforts and overall improving the safety culture throughout the organization.

About Our Speaker: Becky has worked in the Human Resources/Safety field over 16 years.  She started her tenure ship at Swanson Health Products in Fargo, ND working in multiple roles including payroll, benefits, HR administration and Safety for nearly 10 years and during that time obtained her PHR certification.  She then moved to TEAM Industries in Audubon, MN and took on the role of Safety Coordinator.  During that time, she obtained her OSHA 30 hour certification along with providing and promoting behavioral safety techniques to employees.  She is current the Safety Manager at McNeilus Steel, Inc in Fargo.  With the promotion of proactive safety reporting and implementation of new safety management systems, Becky has saved McNeilus Steel over $100,000 per year in potential claims and reserves along with reducing the incidence rate by over 1/2 in the past 4 years.
